valve order

Can someone give me the order of the valves(whether intake or exhaust) from front to back on a three cylinder perkins? Also, I removed dist before making note of its orientation. Can I just put #1 to tdc on compression stroke and install dist with rotor pointed to a plug hole on cap? will this get me close enough to get started so as to be able to us a timing light? thanks

From front to rear valve order.
Number 1) (Front valve), intake
Number 2) exhaust
Number 3) exhaust
Number 4) intake
Number 5) intake
Number 6) (rear valve), exhaust

With number 1 on tdc compression stroke.
1st, install the distributor with the rotor pointed at the number 1 plug hole when the distributor is fully seated.
2nd, set the distributor cap on, and note where one of the plug wire terminals on the cap, and make sure it lines up with the rotor.
There is a rubber plug on the block where the flywheel (same side as the distributor) the flywheel is, it should have the timing marks on it. Static (low idle) timing is set at 12 degrees BTDC, the timing should be at 26 degrees BTDC when the engine is at 2000 rpm, or higher. You may need to move the timing a little bit to where it runs the best.

thank you PT. That was the order I was thinking by looking at manifold and such. My question now is, Does it make a difference on dist as to which plug is designated as #1 as long as plug wires are in correct order? Am I correct in the fact that the firing order is 1,2,3 Thanks again! Ag3-152

It doesn't make a difference as to which one you use for number 1. It's pretty much a standard practice to point the rotor, and cap terminal to the number 1 plug hole. The firing order should be 1, 2, 3.
