Hello all

Thank you for your responses on this issue

Now Part 2

After further reading, I can offer the following

Super tractor SAE 15W-40 is a multifunctional fluid of the super tractor oil universal (STOU)type that is intended for use in both engines and transmission compartments of agricultural tractors and related equipment, including those with oil ?immersed brakes.

Your advice after this additional information would be appreciated

Regards
Don

After replacing the filter on the hydraulic pump, I intend to change the final drive & gearbox oils.
Has any one used or heard of ....Caltex Super Tractor oil.... According to the literature it is CF,CF-4/SF..GL-4...TE-ML06B...TE-ML07B...CMS M1144. The SAE grade is 75W-90.
Will this OIL be suitable for the old girl????
Thanks for your time Don

I am not familiar with that brand but 15w40 is an engine oil. Something like Rotella T is good choice for these old girls but keep it away from your transmission. There is a post from last week here where someone did that and had massive over pressure in the hydraulics. He has lots of repair work to do now internally.

If NSW is New South Wales, any good 15W/40 engine oil is good in the transmission/hydraulic system. I use Agricastrol MP Plus. In the engine i use Castrol RX Mono30, but again any good 30 weight engine oil will do. If in a cooler area, 20 weight engine oil might be better in winter.

Yes NSW is the Mid North Coast, Temperatures varies between minus 1C in winter to 40C plus in summer.

The Castrol agent said I could use it in the engine as well... But I won't be using it on a Perkins diesel.

I live in a small country town so my options are limited, Perhaps I need to contact Castrol Direct

Thanks for your input, I am no oil Guru hence my questions.

Rotella T sounds like a Shell product, Alas there are no Shell Distributors in my area.

Can I suggest you Google Castrol super Tractor oil so as to become familiar with the brand.

I live in a country town so have to go with what I can get.

Again thanks for your input

So peaking at the castrol site i see the section you are referring to. The only ones they show that have any massey rating are the 10W30 and 15W30. The 10W30 is agri plus that bob is using. If he lives in that area and uses that oil without issue then that is probably your answer. I would still run some kind of diesel oil or something meant for older engines. Modern oils do not have the added zinc that the cams need to survive. You could get a zinc additive and use with modern oil and should be fine. Lucas makes a decent one but dont know what is available in your area.
