MF 65 pto problems

Ok I just got my uncles 1960 MF 65 with multi power and all fluids were low so I decided to just change them all because I had know idea what he was using before he died. I put the recommended 90 weigh mineral oil back in the transmission and pto. Replaced inspection cover seals and buttoned it up. I fired up tractor and engaged pto and disengaged it a couple of times also making sure live pto was correctly working. Today I returned to check all fluids and all were ok and I finally got it out and pressure washed all the old grease and oil off the engine and after I was done was going to bush hog a few minutes to check everything. Well the pto handle will not budge. It's like it's stuck or something. I drained the oil again and looked around in the case nothing looks bad. I did find several little pieces in the bottom that are about the size of a pencil lead and pointed on each end . Any ideas on what the problem is?[/img]

With the engine off can you move the lever back and forth? When you put the side cover back on did you miss the grove in the gear by chance?

No and I engaged it yesterday after I was done, I reassembled it today and still no go. I had my dad watch from other inspection hole as I slid it back together yesterday before re filling with oil.

Two points. 1. Multi-Power was not available yet in 1960. 2. Pre Multi-Power tractors used 90 weight oil. Tractors with Multi-Power should have universal transmission and hydraulic oil which is lighter.

Serial# is SNDW 706694
If that helps identify it. From what I could find online it was a 60 not sure. Even if engauging it with 90 weight mineral oil and dis engaging it a couple of times shouldn't cause the problem I'm having?

According to the serial number listings on this site (see column to the left) your tractor is a 1964. My 1964 is serial number SNDW 703691. It is true that the wrong oil won't cause the problem you have engaging the PTO, but it can foul up the Multi-Power.
