MF202 Air Cleaner

Does anyone know if the same steel mesh pads that I buy for my 8N's air cleaner will work in the air cleaner on my MF202?

The previous owner did not do much in the way of maintenance on this 202. I pulled the cup off the bottom of the air cleaner and it had about a 1/2" inch of black stuff thicker than molasses in it.

You can submerse the entire setup in some gasoline, thinner, or diesel (i used diesel) and let it sit overnight. It'll take all the sludge out. If you use something flammable, MAKE SURE IT'S 100% DRY BEFORE REINSTALLING!

Mine had the same in the bottom, I bet it was 2" of sludge with jelly-like consistency. It went up into the filter mesh, too. An overnight soak and blowing it out with the air compressor made it good as new again.

I had thought about putting a paper filter in it, as ptfarmer suggests, but I have other projects to take care of first.

(quoted from post at 22:53:20 01/23/17) I replace those with a air cleaner assembly that use paper elements. The oil bath air filter costs you some power.

Where does one acquire a paper filter for the beast?

Thanks for the hints. But I don't quite understand going through all that. If I'm going to remove the air filter, I'm going to put new mesh in it. It's faster and easier. And for the price of the new mesh, I'd rather not mess around trying to clean the old stuff.

I took my air FaRMALL cleaner air cleaner to the car wash and set it on hot wash and blasted the mesh for many muinutes. Don't know if it did a good job. I imagine it did, but don't really know.
