How to I get the transmission filter out so I can clean it???
I have searched the internet with no luck, some say there is a wing nut on top of the filter housing, mine does not have one. Some say unscrew the top by turning counter-clockwise, I cannot get mine to turn? all I can see on the top of my filter housing in the small metal bar/rod that the wire was attached to (I got the wire off in one piece). All I currently have is the IT manual, I have a repair and owners manual on order.
If the link will work this is what mine looks like.

Sorry this link above is not how mine looks but the forum will not allow me to edit??? I cannot find a link to an image that looks like mine. Mine has a small (maybe 1/16" dia) rod that running across the top of the filter housing the the safety wire was attached to.

The top of the filter housing should have a metal tab like this

It's possible someone broke the tab off, and welded the 1/16" diameter rod on it.

If it hasn't been changed in awhile, or had water sitting in it high enough to get to the threads on the bottom, it can be a bear to get loosened up. Like pockypg said turn it "lefty loosy" (or counter clockwise).

Mine definitely does not look like this one. Mine has no tab. nothing on top of the filter housing but that small rob which I fear will break if I twist it very hard.. I tried getting an oil filter wrench on it I could get it on but no room to turn the wrench

The top piece has like a 1/4" bolt welded to it that goes down, and screws into the pump base to hold it on, but it shouldn't/doesn't need to be that tight as yours is.

So do I just get a hold of the top metal housing and unscrew it?

Yes, mine is like the "new" one, so does the top just unscrew? (As you will see I have also asked ptfarmet if it just unscrews)

(quoted from post at 12:46:44 01/20/17) Yup it just unscrews. You might have to lean into it but it will come out.

X2^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ok thanks I'll try to lean on it harder. Not a lot of room in there to lean!

Fabricated a simple tool today and was able to use it to break the filter loose. If I knew how I would post a photo here??? The "tool" is basically two pieces of 1" x 1/4" x 1/2" steel welded together with a space between them just wide enough to fit over the "wire" that's on top of the filter housing. Then I welded a 1/2" nut on top so I could get a socket on it. ( I tied a string to my "tool" just in case I dropped it into the tractor bowels.) I was able to use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a short extension to turn it. I think the are also some "over-the-counter" filter wrenches that tighten up as you turn them with a ratchet would work.

(quoted from post at 19:30:21 01/22/17) Finger tight so its not loose, and use the tie wire. You shouldn't have to use any tools to loosen (or tighten) the strainer.

Will do. Thanks
