231 Stuck Differential Lock

Last time I was plowing and used the differential lock in my 231 it did not dis-engage. Pedal is not stuck it appears to be something inside. I have checked the fluid etc. and nothing appears to be out of place or abnormal. I had serviced it about 6 months prior used little after and had no issues until now. Is this a common problem? and if so is there an easy cure?

1994 Model (best I remember)
740 actual hours
It is not an S series

Thanks in advance!

Usually it will disengage itself after awhile... if it is really stuck on? I wonder if you jacked up both tires and rocked things back and forth? If that don't work.... dunno....

I can't speak for the 231 but on my 245 if the diff lock is engaged it only "veers", it won't turn until you disengage it. I don't see how your tractor is useable if it is indeed engaged. When used it will disengage after I lift my foot and steer straight ahead. They do stick when not used a lot. Lots of spray and movement will help get the linkage loose. If it's an internal issue you may have to tear into it. Tony's suggestion sounds like a great starting point. Good Luck with it!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a try and yes it is hard to turn VERRRRRY wide turns. I had just been using my other tractors and hadn't gotten the chance to look into this yet.

Thanks again.

One more thing to try is to back up while 'slightly' turning the steering back and forth. You can also tie a rope or chain to the lever and pull up on it while trying to get it loose. It appears some lubricating spray is in your future ;-)
