Is it possible to buy the just the nut, and where?

I just bought two at my equipment dealer. 5/8 NF castle nut. No
part # on the slip. I bet Napa or similar should have them. Sorry
I'm not more help.

Local hardware, farm store or Fastenal. Or in a pinch use a cutoff wheel and cut the notches on a nut that fits.

National Fine...how many threads per inch would that be?

Is UNF the same as national fine? 5/8"-18 is a UNF thread.

NF and UNF are essentially the same thing. 5/8x18 should be what you are looking for. You could always unscrew the post and take it with you to make sure.
