Massey Harris 333 oil canister

Here's a good question.
Working on my 333 with the original E-208. Took the oil canister apart and cleaned it. I found that there is only a very small hole in tube for oil to flow through (not even 1/8"). Does this sound right, or could there be more holes that have been corroded and plugged?

I wouldn't question it, thinking it's from the manufacturer that way, but the engine has sat for 40+ years so corrosion on outer pieces is an issue. That and it was parked because the valves seized.
 
So If I understand correctly - not all oil flows through the filter? a portion to the filter and the rest through the engine?
 
Fordpower is correct. I had the same
concern with my MF 150. If you were to
drill additional holes or enlarge the
single hole, you will lower oil volume
and pressure to bearings.
 
I think those oil filters only filter s small percentage of the oil flow. Is designed that way, for several reasons. It is not wise to try to filter 100%, because filter could plug and ruin engine. Also filter would be too big. By filtering only a percentage, over time, as a few hours go by, it gets all the oil filtered. Works fine.
 
This is what I did to my MF2135 Industrial with the Continental Z134, made it a full flow system (I didn't care if it was 100% restored). Now the engine/bearings gets filtered oil instead of the filtered oil being dumped back to the oil pan. I have since changed some fittings to make it look better. It has been trouble free so far (I'm quite happy with it).
