mf 30e dies under gannon load

1986 mf 30e seems to die shortly after giving it a load to pull and level with the gannon / box blade. The loader bucket doesn't do the same and it seems to idle indefinitely. Once it dies it won't restart. Turns over but won't start until I give it a freshly-charged battery.
I haven't done the full alternator diagnosis stuff quite yet. I intend to. Also the fuel injection manifold? leaks a bit just before it splits to the three injectors. Could it be sucking air in under load then dying? But then why would it not restart until a fresh battery is installed?
Confused and needing ideas.

By the "fuel injection manifold" I'm assuming you mean the injector pump

where the lines come out. The dying out under a load could be caused by the injector pump not getting enough fuel (clogged fuel filter(s), or a possible problem with the injector pump.

For the hard to start it until you put a freshly charged battery sounds like the starter may need new bushings (starter dragging). A dragging starter uses a lot of power for it to crank over. I would also say it is not charging the battery as it should.

Any injection pump leaks can give air in fuel trouble like you have, is one of my most common repairs. There's a bleed orifice at the filter base that will cause stalling when it gets plugged too, it allows trapped air to return to the tank. When it plugs air gets to the injection pump instead and stalls the engine.
