MF 255 antifreeze question

Have a MF 255 with cab. I want to drain and replace the antifreeze. Do I have to do something about the antifreeze that is in the heater core at the top of the cab? How does the new antifreeze get to a higher level than the top of the radiator? Nothing in the tractor or cab manuals covers this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If the heater core is higher than the radiator the coolant should flow out by gravity. The water pump pushes the coolant back up to fill the core. Just make sure that you get the engine up to operating temp and the thermostat opens to purge the air from the system before capping it.

One thing not mentioned by JT is that the heater control should be switched to 'HOT' when draining and refilling/purging the system. This opens the valve fully and reduces the possibility of an air lock.

Thanks for your help. Might be the original antifreeze in this tractor (made in 1981 and Dad passed away in 1983). Only certain maintenance got done in the last 33 years. I don't remember doing the antifreeze. And it tested to minus 10 degrees F (with one of those cheap plastic testers). Going down to about 10 degrees F tonight. Maybe I can get it changed on Monday.

With antifreeze that old it has lost all, or most, of its protection qualities. Make sure to pop the drain plug on the block and get it all out. If it's not to cold maybe even flush things out with the garden hose. Check carefully around the freeze plugs for any corrosion. If nothing looks crusty you should be fine with a flush and fill. Good time to also check all your hoses for cracking or excessive softness or bulging and replace as needed.
