Broke sleeve

Tried installing 152 diesel sleeves. Used freezer and then dry ice. Only in Freezer 2-3 hrs. Got # 3 inmost of way and the I was using 2x4 with
small hammer and the sleeve broke 🙀 Tried # 2 sleeve and it went in half way and got tight. I stopped and pulled it back out. I had a heat lamp
on block for 4-5 hrs and I had the sleeve in dry ice for 30 minuets. Pulled number 2 back out and put # 1-2 sleeves in the freezer till tomorrow. I
will have to order another sleeve to replace the broken one.

DON'T use a wood block, that's the quickest way to break thin wall cast sleeves. Use a heavy steel plate to tap sleeves in place, hold the plate tight against the sleeve before using the hammer.

Ok, thanks. I used up my dry ice ? I have the # 1 @2 sleeves in the freezer tonight and I left a heat lamp on the block. Dick

I overhauled my 65 diesel almost 30 years ago. Your 152 engine is basically 3/4 of my 203. This what I did. I had a sleeve puller with an aluminum disk that fit the sleeves. I made sure the bores in the block were totally clean, washed the coating off the new sleeves with gasoline and dried them, coated the sleeves with fresh oil and let them drain off, wrapped them in the paper they came in and put them in the freezer over night. The next day I took them out one at a time, pushed them in by hand, put that aluminum disk on top of them and gave a good rap. They all went right in where they belonged.
