dieseltech/JD question

Wasn't sure I would find you on the Jd site, hope the MF people don't mind a "green" question...
I was asked about a JD E series tractor, 200 hours on it, 2 years old and it smokes "blue" when running, blackish upon starting, and when running [180/190 ] degrees smokes blue, idle and loaded, unless really loaded it turns more to blackish.
Service dept send a tech who, loosened the injector pump, twisted it a bit and said to put fuel conditioner in the tank and left. The injector pump turning didn't change the smoke issue, better or worse.
The owner has re-fuelled as needed and is using winter grade fuel now.
Any thoughts as to why it smokes, enough the haze is visable just looking at it from 30 odd feet away, no power loss or other problems.
I agree the conditioner comment should be tried just to make sure, but curious if this common with JD's or what?
Tks

Is this a diesel or gasser? Blue smoke is burning oil. Diesels will smoke a little oil on startup when they are cold but shouldn't at all after they warm up. I would run a compression test on it. Based on your description it almost sounds like broken rings. A bad injector can give similar effects but you made no mention of any knocking noises. Also check the oil on the dipstick. Does it smell like oil or fuel?

Sounds like the tractor is too new for me, I'm more familiar with older diesel pumps without the emission troubles. If the pump is the Delphi DP200 it may have advance issues..

Just my opinion, I dunno about JD tractors, but if it really has only 2 years and 200 hours, it reminds me of my Perkins 3 cylinder diesel. Ran bad, blew black dribbles out the exhaust, slobberd, smoked. Until I read the manual, where it said to NOT just idle it along, lope along. Warm it up at 1200 rpm for 3 minutes, then WORK it, operate at 1700 rpm. I now do that, and exhaust is clean, black slobbering has totally gone away. Admittedly, on startup t here is a slight smoke, but it quickly goes away as it warms up.

Morning Gentlemen: Hope I can answer all the comments..Its a diesel, no knocking or noise from internals, I will look at the pump for a brand before the new year??:). The black slobber issue with the perkins, is what i had on my mf25 also, bad thermostat/running to cold.
it runs like new and has power etc as needed, just that it smokes blue[ish] all the time, no oil being used, nor is it thined out with fuel, it been like this since new,i hope i got the model number right..JD 2050 E...
Service tech " used channel locks to move the pump" so said and may of been, but the tech did not say i did this number of degrees, tighten, checked, just moved the pump, said put conditioner in it and left.
30 minutes tops i am told, but got a clue that it was the industrial equip service tech, not the farm equip tech.
Still a trained person, on Jd and diesels.
A curiousty for sure, but not a show stopper, tks again for the thoughts.
Keep your sticks on the ice and have a safe/merry season
Phil

Any idea if its mechanical or common rail injection?

"Keep your sticks on the ice and have a safe/merry season" .. Not sure playing hockey and staying safe can be used in the same sentence :)

Seeing the season is here, it might be awhile before i get there to visit, without having to do a " look at this/what you think, while visiting:)
I will post any details later on
tks all
