I trying to help with an 811 skid steer with a Perkins diesel. Been sitting for some time. It has a CAV pump. Everything is primed and we have a sputter of fuel to the injectors. I think the shutoff is stuck. Can I just lift the top of that pump off and check the shutoff without causing a lot of grief . Does this sound reasonable? Thanks

If it's set awhile since it last ran the pump may have other parts stuck also. Have been repairing more lately that have the plungers, pressure sleeve assembly, and even the weights stuck in the cage. A complete tear down and cleaning is needed when they are in that shape..
