MF 135 Perkins gas

Newbie here, new to the MF forum because I have just acquired a MF 135. I have visited the Ford forum as I have a 1949 8N.
Of course I have questions :D! I have recently purchased the 135 as a pig in a poke, it may end up being more of a pig than I had hoped!
It is a 3 cylinder Perkins gas, tractor serial number 9a 164524 the engine serial number 152AU 23849A.
It did not run when I got it and I am now in the process of replacing ignition parts (weak/no spark) and going thru the carb. My main concern right now is I cannot get the shift lever to move in any direction, it is really tight with very little movement. previous owner said he drove it under the shelter about two years ago and had not started it since. Any info on the tractor would be nice and any ideas about the shiftier would be great!

'Usually' the yokes on the shifters can bound up, but prying them with a long screwdriver sideways in the fluid filler cap will 'usually' loosen them up. I wouldn't take the whole ignition AND fuel apart at the same time, but there is nothing unusual about the way the engine runs. You got the manual?

I did look into the inspection hole but I have no idea what I was looking at or at least how everything in the tranny should arranged? Hopefully once I get it running I will be able to tell more about the issue or a least know what if any gear it is stuck in. No I don't have a manual, any particular one you would recommend?

Thanks for the link. I saw two manuals for the 135 both said "service" , one was $100 the other was about $45 do I need the $100 one? I had no luck with the parts books when I clicked on the link nothing showed up?

(quoted from post at 18:39:50 12/15/16) The I&T manual is better than the $40 service manual, for the parts try http://agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/login.aspx?region=NorthAmerica login as a guest user click on the "view books" button.

I ordered an I&T manual yesterday, anxious to see how much help it will provide. Too cold here in NC to mess with it today only going to be about 35, I know some of you farther north would be out in shorts at 35????

Got the new carb and ignition parts installed, would fire up with starter fluid but wouldn't run. Battery I was using appeared to be either weak or had a poor connection. I swapped the battery from my truck and also realized I had not connected the fuel shutoff when I reinstalled the carb. Once these were corrected she fired right up and ran! I could drive it around but the transmission was still stuck. I had looked (and poked) into the inspection hole but I had no idea what I should be trying to move? The only part that seemed accessible I could easily slide with my finger so I assumed that was not what I would have to move to unlock the tranny. My son sat in the seat and tried to shift, I used a screwdriver to slide that same part that I could slide with my finger (didn't think it wise to put my finger in there while he was trying to shift) it unlocked and now shifts fine! Not sure I have the carb exactly right as it sounds like it's running a little rough, maybe it's just that I'm use to hearing my 4 cylinder 8N and this is a 3 cylinder? Thanks for any/all advice, I'm sure I be asking more as time goes by.

No it will not sound like a 4. If it sounds like a diesel, when running and shutting off, that is normal too. It is an odd number, so balanced differently I suppose- and converted from a diesel design, so it is going to be a bit different. Now having a manual is a good start too. Glad it is working out for you

The 3 cylinder gas does sound different than you are used to hearing. Even the 3 cylinder diesel has a different sound than a 4 cylinder diesel.
