Three point hitch

I have a MF 20. When I bought it the owner was using a bushhog strapped up with cargo straps. The three point hitch worked veeery slowly, but it worked. I trailered it home, and parked it at a friends shop. He changed the Hyd . oil and the hitch hasn't worked since. I pulled the cover and found a broken shift lever and replaced it, put in hyd. oil recommended by MF dealer here and new filter. replaced all and still no three point hitch. I pulled the stand pipe and it seems as looking through the pipe hole no fluid is being pumped up the pipe. I am learning the hard way what not to do and who not to listen to . any help sure would be gratefully appreciated.

You are going to have to pull the lift cover, sounds like the hydraulic pump gave up (it should pump oil up the stand pipe while just cranking the engine over). The lift cylinder, and piston will probably need replacing as the cylinder, piston, and seal are probably scared up.

Just a thought. Look at your PTO shift lever, if it has 3 positions, OFF, Ground and Engine, make sure it is not in ground. other wise the pump won't turn unless rear wheels are turning.

I just reinstalled the cover and should have rebuilt the pump while I was in there. The piston and rings looked ok, but might as well replace them this time. thank you very much.

Nevermind, that was a senior moment. First verify control levers are where they are supposed to be to operate 3PH. pull the r/h cover and look for fluid bypassing through the relief valve. Connecting a gauge to the appropriate port is always the best way to T/S these systems. (I picked up the last one from a local hydraulics shop for about $20.) Get a service manual for it, it will save you money. If you need S/N year info I happen to have it, It was included in a download I got yesterday.

I just hate to see someone automatically think they need to rebuild the pump without checking out the easy things. Move the control lever by hand to insure it is not stuck. (be careful not to let the cylinder over run as it can cause major damage to the lift cylinder studs) relief valves come in two flavors, a sealed cartridge type, they are color coded for pressure rating, and a diaphragm type. They will stay in bypass if bad. The pump will have excessive noise if bad. I feel your pain, I am in the midst of similar issues with mine. :)

I am brand new with this, first tractor. I took the cover off the riser pipe and shifted every thing, with no fluid at all coming out of the riser. I pulled cover off a while back and took it to MF dealer. I found a broken shift lever. They took it apart and put pieces in a bag and gave it back to me saying they couldn't find parts. Told me good luck putting it back together. I found the parts and put it all back together and reinstalled it on my tractor. musta missed something.

It is possible for the control valve on the pump to be stuck, or the pressure relief valve stuck open. Drain some oil out just so you can remove the cover on the right hand side, and watch the linkage to see if its working.

I had a similar experience with my local Massey Dealer. Even with some after market parts suppliers. It is like if they have to do any of the research for updated numbers they will just tell you they don't have it. Just got a response from a larger supplier that said they have none of the parts on my list even when they show several of them in stock on their web page. It's frustrating. Anyway back to your issues. There is always a set of adjustments to be performed on the hitch cover before installation followed by final adjustments after. your final adjustments will require tests with a pressure gauge installed for best results. If you just western it as they say out here, damage to the assembly will most likely result. Best of luck
