I'm the new owner of a 1969 massey 175. She's got 6500 hours on her and everything works great except the pto. It's the regular on/off pto. I put a winch on today and went to the woods to pull a little fire wood. She'd skid a 16 inch log 20 feet long down hill, but after that not much of anything. I have the owners manual, and the shop manual, and after reading those it looks like I'm going to have to split her and do some work on the pto clutch. I'm retired and am mainly doing this as a hobby to get out of the house, so I'd rather not put too much time and money into this endeavor. Any of you old (or young) massey guys have any magic tricks to get this pto to pull?
Thanks to all.

Does the tractor have the twelve speed Multi-Power transmission, and if so does it work? The same pump feeds both the MP and independent PTO shift valves. Should be a gauge pressure tap on the PTO shift side cover. I'd do some testing first. Most common damage to either clutch pack is running transmission oil level too low.

In my part of the world, I never saw a hyd PTO,I know they made them, but most were dry clutch. I did a short stint at the local MF dealer.

Dealer I worked for years ago sold the 100 series both ways, most early tractors had the two stage clutch, and most later models had the independent hydraulic PTO clutch. Dad's 1967 180 is independent PTO too.

It does not have the multi-power transmission, just three forward, one reverse with high low range. It is independent, not a two stage clutch.

I realize this post is getting some age on it but here it goeas anyway. If this tractor only has a 3 speed with high and low instead of a four speed high and low then it either has multipower or someone has went inside and pinned it permanently into the high side of the multipower. Massey as far as I can remember did not put out a 3x2 transmission without multipower. only 4x2 were non multipower.

@SwissDairy, I spent a lot of seat time on a 175 that had a 3x2 transmission that was not equipped with MultiPower. Not sure what year it was. Cousin bought it used from the local dealer some time in the mid '70's. I've seen a bunch 100 series 3x2 w/o MP equipped, but only one 4x2. It was my understanding that the 6 speed was "standard", and the 8 speed was the "option". May be a "year" thing. ??

I've seen plenty of 3x2 transmissions without multi-power, multi-power was option I believe.
