What makes it an MF40?

Hello all, my one and only tractor is a MF40 with 4
cyl gas engine z134 designation. Great tractor. I use
it for work around my place and it's more than
enough machine. But it seems to be an odd duck--
was this tractor mostly an "industrial" application?
With a few outfitted for traditional farm use? Any
info is appreciated. Replies will go to my email and
I'll get back to you. Thanks, G

Are you sure it's not a Ferguson F-40 that has been repainted? They made a Massey Harris 50 that was the same as the F-40 that was red. Check your serial number tag. If it starts with a 4 it is a Ferguson. If it starts with a 5 it is a Massey.

Hello Crawlerjohn, I've attached a photo of my tractor and will verify what info I can from the scratchy serial #. The loader is from Ford 700 series I gathered from the ID plate on one of the lift arms. Prev owner did a good job mounting it-/very strong and responsive. Don't know the tractor's history as I picked it up at an equip sale and there were many machines there. I appreciate your reply, will give me something to go on.

A F-40 (unless you are looking at a MF40 industrial).

I checked the tractor this morning--it's an F-40. Thanks for the help, good to know what I have.

Yes, this is same as mine, but mine's been painted
red-/either original or repainted?

Thank you. Just one follow-up question: tried find
info re: horsepower either engine or PTO. Any idea
for the F-40 with 4 cyl gas continental? Again,
thanks for the reply, will help me as I track down
spare parts.

Thank you! Lots of good information. I've been very
pleased with this tractor. Good size, good power,
easy to operate. Great machine.
