MH 44 push rods

A friend bought a 44 with the engine torn apart. He is putting it back together with new parts but has run into a problem. It is the 260 engine. The problem is, the push rods seem to be about 1" too long. Also, he says that the lifters are two piece. Can anyone give us any ideas? Thanks

Hmm, you got me there. Can't see valve train adjustment reducing by an inch. Are you sure the rods/lifters are correct and properly installed? Ben

I think he put the lifters together wrong, they are single piece. There is a cup shaped piece that looks like it goes in the lifter, but it does not, it goes between the rocker arm and the valve.

David G is correct, lifters are single piece mushroom style, and each valve tip has a cup that the rocker arm ball rides in. Continental 201, 208, 260, 277, and 382 all used this system.

You might be able to pull them out with magnet, but not sure they will fit through hole in head.
