135 Perkins repair progress

Got the head off the AD3-152 engine finally. It was stuck and did not want to break loose. Head looks pretty good, valve guides are tight just need to do a valve job. The head gasket did not look good. Got the pan off after I finally found all the bolts. A couple are hid ? Pulled the rods and Pistons. Bearings look good but can't say that for the Pistons and rings. Number 1 and 2 Pistons had broken rings and part of the ring groove area looks burned out ? Dick

While you have it apart put an in frame kit in at the minimum. New pistons, rings, sleeves, rod and main bearings. I would mike the crenkshaft to be sure it was in spec. Do a proper repair and it will last another 25 or more years. You can buy a complete kit for 5 or 6 bills.

With those broken pistons take a good look at the cylinder walls too. If there is a lot of vertical scoring then you are looking at having them bored. You might be able to clean them up with a hone if you are careful depending on how bad they are.
Roll the cam around so you can get a look at the lobes. They should all be the same shape. If one is rounded or you have pitting or flaking then that will need to go too. Same with the lifters, if the bottoms are dished or flaking or pitting then it's time.
You have come this far... look at everything!

Plan on piston, ring and sleeve set. Amazingly sleeves don't look bad ? Bearings and crank look good. I see sleeve piston kits with bearings and gaskets for $350.00 or more and some for less. Probably going to use Allstates tractor parts. Dick
