3 point issues

Good day, i have a massey ferguson 135 deisel, mid 70's i think. I am having isssues with the 3-point lift. I can not adjust the height of the lift, it always goes into the up position even when the controls are moved to to down poisitoins.

I am hoping someone might have some sugguestions with correcting this issues. My best guess, there is an issues with the control linkage inside going from the levers into the hydraulic housing. I have never been inside the housing, so am hoping for some suggestions before i open it up.

Thanks.

Hi, the first thing to do would be drain the transmission oil to the level of the lowest bolt on the RH round side
cover. Remove the cover and you will see a lever coming down from above which engages with the pump lever coming
up from below. When the quadrant Position Control lever is in the raised position the vertical lever from above
should be leaning rearwards under pressure from the pump lever. This os in the pumping position. As the linkage
rises the vertical lever will assume a more vertical position as the linkage reaches the selected height. When you
lower the quadrant lever the vertical lever will lean forward into the discharge (drop) position. If when you move
the quadrant lever downwards you do not get a corresponding forward movement on the vertical lever then there is a
fault in the linkage inside the hydraulic cover. If the control valve in the pump is free you should be able to
move the pump lever by hand to cause the 3-point to rise and fall.
Let us know what you find.

Good day. i finally got a chance to break into this issues. i have opened up the cover and found when i move the quadrant position control lever in either the raising or lowering positions i do not get any movement in the linkages.

If i push the linkage rearward and then move the raising and lowering control lever i some feeling of limited movement.

i will be looking to moving on the the next step, hopefully i can get some more advice. thanks again

I don't know if your 135 is similar but I purchased a MF202 Workbull. It's the industrial version of the MG35.

When I got it, the lift arms did the same thing. They just went to the top and stayed there. It took some time but when I put the lever down all the way, I could put some weight on the arms and they would slowly creep down.

Anyway, I changed the fluid. Then I removed the dipstick inspection plate. I couldn't see any fluid movement in there so I thought, "no leaks". When I moved the quadrant levers up and down I got very little movement from the two arms that go down to the control valve rocker. Without the tractor running, I reached in and down and felt the control valve and moved it back and forth. It was free and would return on it's own with the spring.

I reached in with a screw driver and gave the arms a gentle pry towards the rear and they seemed to break free. All of a sudden the lift started working again as it should. It just took a little nudging to get things freed up again is all I could figure. :D

back with the latest update.

we pulled the cover off and with the cover off, we were able to get the control linkages to move forward and back. we were also able to the the move the pin the pushed on the pump to move in and out.

we then put it all back together and once everything was back together, the we could not get any movement in the vertical rod when we moved the control levers.

we also moved the levers back and forth by hand but got no results in the 3-point to drop.

so are there some additional test to do. is the issue with the control valve that is not letting the linkages move when installed?

thanks

good day everyone. back with a follow up. my brother came out and we worked on it some more and with his help we were a little more forceful with the pressure on the lever trying to get it to mover rearward.

we were successful in getting the valve to free up the valve and now we have motion from all the levers when actuated. thank you all for the help and have a great day. jeffrey

Great to here your success. It's kind of like what happened with mine. You're afraid to force things too much, but sometimes that's what it takes. The way I figured it with mine is that if forcing things to loosen up didn't work, I was going to have to remove the top cover anyway. I was pretty sure it was just a linkage problem because I didn't see any excess fluid motion with the pump running.

I guess I should have run out right that day and bought a lottery ticket but I didn't think of it.

Good to hear that the fix didn't involve having to remove the lift cover. If something breaks when you have to force it, it probably needed to come apart anyways. Every time I use my tractors after it sits I always work the 3 point controls some just to make sure it works, and should help it from getting a sticking control valve even if you don't plan on using the 3 point that day.
