New Zealand earthquake

Just saw on the news that they had a 7+ earthquake. There are some that post here that live there. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

It rocked and rolled all right! But we are all ok, sloshed 1/2 the water out of the town swimming pool though! Just lost some sleep. Thanks for your thoughts, we live about 90 miles SSE from Hamner Springs where the Quake centre was. Sadly 2 people lost their lives last night.

Yeah, when I was living in Tauranga there was a quake when I was in the tool crib of my job- boy the nuts and bolts were rattling. The toolman grabbed my sleeve and pulled me out of the quanset hut- a pom from Scotland- but he knew that was a 'pre shock?' He said 'just stand here tony baloney, the big one is coming any second. As we stool on the grass between buildings, it hit, my knees felt like I was drunk- everything groaned... then the @#$%^&* gantry crane fell off the track, our workmates were screaming bloody murder- he holds my sleeve, we don't go in there yet tony baloney, not yet... no one was hurt, but all of us were scared silly. The big ol Maori weldor was cursing in 2 languages... praying in 3- he knew Latin.... the foreman was a medic in the territorial army, running around with a NZ army bag of first aid stuff.... but the only medical treatment we needed was beer. The boss supplied that.
After that, seeing that bloody steam coming out of White Island was un nerving.... the vertical rippled hills in Akaroa, the 'harbours' that had to move in less than 100 years- was that Chch or Dunedin? Both? You know the land is alive....
After the last big one I was wondering about my old sweeties in Christchruch (yes, lived there awhile too, more than one gorgeous Sheila... yee... the good ol days were bloody good!!).... wondered if they had families now, and if any kids were hurt... I'm certain they lost homes or bits of one.... the old 'Lattimere' I stayed in back then collapsed, or so I was told... and last night- again?.... I hope they shifted to oz before the first one.... my heart goes out to all kiwis.... again...

I think every thing in Chch that could have fallen down did do in 2011, and then some that were in the way of the rebuild plan. The centre of
town was bulldozed, practically nothing left there that you would remember. Most damage done north from the Quake centre at Hamner Springs,
Main road still blocked to Blenhiem. Check www.geonet.org.nz those shakes are still coming every 3 to 4 minutes, anything over about a 4.5
we can feel down here near the Rakaia river mouth.

Yeah, I am still in contact with an ol mate on North Island, his company had to help in Chch in '11, he said they were told to hush about it, but there was more dangerous nasty damage than told in the news- oil tank farms leaking into the ground, gas lines cracked and ready for a cigarette butt... not a place to hang around.
Wasn't the cathedral already cracking years earlier? that must be done for this time. I heard even the 'archwizard' shifted to oz... the whole place is a different world I suppose....

The Cathedral fell down on 22 Feb '11, the wizard went to oz pretty quick too. A lot of people went to Oz, and the population of Timaru
increased by 20% overnight. A lot of land in the Eastern suburbs of Christchurch is now unstable and cannot be built on again so they have
built new subdivisions mainly in Rolleston, Lincoln and Leeston. The USS Sampson is now steaming to Kaikoura, along with the Canadian HMCS
Vancouver, Aussie HMAS Darwin, and our own HMNZS Wellington and Canterbury warships to take food and Diesel and uplift about 1,000 stranded
tourists that got a vacation they would not forget in a big hurry.
