OK what the best way to de-sludge trans and rear diff without dismantling my 1960 MF 65?? What is everyone using for fluid in the trans and rear diff?
I have read many posts here and still don't see any solid recommendations.

Thanks
This tractor is new to me. I don't have my books yet.

You can remove the round side cover where the pto lever comes out (drain all the oil first). The should be a strainer at the inlet of the hydraulic pump. I used diesel to flush them out, then sacrifice a couple of gallons of new universal trans/hydraulic fluid to flush out any diesel.

If your hyd trans differential systems are working properly, no problems,

Why not just take the old tractor out, get it good and hot, plowing etc, then bring it in and let the oil drain out of the sump as it was intended,

I would be concerned that any type cleaning chemicals introduced to the sump could break loose gunk, built up sludge and you running the
sludge filled cleaning solution through the pump and valuing could cause damage to the lift system

I would just it hot, drain the oil, add new oil and motor on,

I poured some kerosene in a good running Ford 292 motor one time, ran it a very few minutes, drained it out, added new oil, ran it 15 minutes
or so, drained it out and added new oil again,
I am sure it cleaned out the motor, because from that moment on the motor ran well but smoked, I kicked my self many times for ruining that
good motor for no reason,
Just my two cents!

asking about oil here is like getting an opinion about our countries election process. just get the right manual for the machine and follow instructions. easy huh?

On a different model, a Farmall H, I was able to remove the transmission cover with a chain hoist, and inspect, and boy am I glad. I found 65 years of accumulated gunk, dust, dirt, solidified grease and unknown other solids settled in layers in the bottom, and I mean SOLID, and I scraped it out with a number of wood shim shingles and scrapers and wire scrapers.... A flush of anything would not have moved that stuff.

LOL!! Yeah you are right about that!! I still haven't received my manuals yet!! Just trying to get going so I can use it some.

I ended up putting some diesl in and drained out an then fill with some cheap hydro oil to flush out the diesel. I used GL1 90 mineral oil as that was what I saw the most recccomened in my research on the internet. Also put a gallon of Lucas oil in. The little bit I drove the tractor it seems to shift a lot easier than before. Gonna run her some tonight after work and see how she goes.
Thanks for all the help!!

I was able to take one of the side covers off to look inside and it was clean no sludge. Someone must have cleaned it out at one point.

I gotta drain the brown mustard out of my 48 TE20, I bought ten gallons of GL 1 as I heard it took 6 gallons, $110 later I should have enough :p.

need to swap the PTO seal while I am at it. fun fun fun
