I have a new to me MF4253 4 cylinder w/cab and changing the oil for the first time. The oil was fine when I got it. I have the oil out but that filter is a bugger, no working room and the two (different type)filter wrenches I can get on it will hit the engine before it loosens the filter. Any ideal what to do except driving an iron bar through it? If I do that, I need the number for the filter because with my luck, it will destroy the number. Thanks

Did you try the type that goes across the top of the filter and you use a ratchet and extension on it? Can you post a pic?

A friend came over that had one of those, the kind that has three fingers and tightens the more you pull the ratchet, had it before you could count to ten. As soon as I find one, I WILL have one of those. I've never seen one like it.

There was no way to use the ones I have, three different styles. The handles hit the engine before they got tight. Thanks for answering.

Excellent! These top wrenches aren't used much anymore but you can still get them. If you google top filter wrench you'll find them.

I've got one of those 3 fingered one's as well. Works great to get the transmission filters off on the Oliver's as well, because those are difficult to reach under the platform and get extremely tight after being on for years.

I just had to take the rubber grippers off because they didn't help any, and we're nut trying to save the filter any way.
