Having problems with the pto on my 135. I had it apart 2 yrs ago and had the pto clutch redone. My problem now is pto turns when disengaged and also doesn't turn under load. Was working on a 6 ft brush hog this summer then went "south" Just before, when engaging pto, it was "right now", not a smooth start at all. Quit a clatter starting mower. Any ideas what to look for when I tear into it again? thanks In advance Greg

Sounds to me that you have the ordinary dual clutch setup, and the PTO clutch disk has piled up inside the clutch pack - with pieces of disk or lining jamming enough to drag, but not enough to drive the load.
You may see some bits lying in the bottom of the case under the clutch if you remove the bottom cover plate. You can also have a look up at the clutch to see if any damage is visible in there.

A 135 would either have "live" PTO with a 2 stage clutch or "independent" PTO with a hydraulic clutch pack father back in the driveline. Your description sounds like IPTO with a bad PTO brake and a burned out clutch pack.

With live pto you have to push the clutch pedal all the way down to engage the pto. With independent pto you can engage the pto without using the clutch at all. Sounds like you have independent pto that needs some repair work.

it must be independent pto, just idle down and move lever on left of case. Like I said, when using brush hog this summer, even when idled down, engaging pto was quite violent, like pto engaged to fast and the weight of mower blades caused a ruckus. I'm thinking this violent engagement was the cause of my problems now. thanks

With live pto the pto will grind if you try to engage it without using the clutch. Also on the round cover where the pto lever comes out there should be a couple of capped off hydraulic ports.
