massey 175 - Hey dieseltech

I am going to pull the pan off my 175 diesel that is knocking. My question is about the balancer I read about in the IT manual. Is there anything I need to be aware of or watch out for when I remove it? I have done a few tractor overhauls before but none with this style of mechanism- mostly continentals for me! Thanks for your help. I am guessing that at this point I am going to do a complete rebuild with a clutch because for some reason I love this thing for a haying tractor. Thanks again!

That balancer runs at twice engine speed, each weight turns opposite direction of the other. There are gear marks to be aligned, but mainly with either 1-4 or 2-3 pitons at TDC and the weights down is where it needs to be. If you have ever been around the Perkins AD4-203 you will be glad you have the balancer. MF 65, 165, and 255 with the 203 did not run nearly as smooth as they did not use the balancer and whole tractor did shake more. Not really bad, 203 is a good engine, but not as smooth as the 236, 248, 300, and 318 engines.

since I am at this point is there anything that should be looked at or replaced with the balancer? Are there replaceable bearings or anything that will wear out on it?
