MF 435 Brazilian no start

hi
Sorry if this has been covered before, tried searching with no result.
Got a Massey Ferguson 435 Brazilian made with a Perkins engine, 1200 hours. Over the last 12 months it has gradually become harder to start, thermo start works ok. Hard to start even when at operating temperature
A week ago whilst slashing grass it died. Prefilter had algae type scum, cleaned, changed other fuel filter, bleed system all the way to injector inlet, will NOT start. It will fire with etheline sprayed into induction but will not continue to run under its own steam.
Until it died, after I managed to start when cold it seemed to have plenty of power, maybe with a little black smoke when labouring up a steep slope slashing.
Please help
Kind regards
Pat

Hello Pat,
These tractors supplied to the Australian market were equipped with a solenoid for fuel shutoff, not a manual cable. Being Brazilian built, the usual electrical problems may come into play here.... a break in the wiring, bad connection at a plug, corroded starter switch and on it goes. I'd connect a hotwire directly to the injection pump shutoff solenoid and re-try.
Let us know the results,
Evan.

Thank you Evan, will have a look at this in the next couple of days.
I assume the solenoid will be somewhere in the injector pump??

Pat

Hi Evan
Checked solenoid today, it works fine.
Checked little plastic filter on inlet connection to pump, it was clean.
Cleaned prefilter, replaced fuel filter. Air filters are both new.
Bled complete system with lift pump, cracked a couple of injector lines whilst turning over with starter motor, fuel comes out but I am NOT sure if this is enough.
Thermostart works ok, if I hold key in this position for 15 to 20 seconds tractor fires maybe a couple of times and NO more, if I continue to wind it makes no attempt to fire, small amount of whiteish smoke comes out of stack.
When it fires on those 2 times a reasonable amount of black smoke comes out of exhaust stack.
1300 hours, owners book recommends injector service at 1000 hours I have not done this.
any suggestions.
Regards
Pat
