MF 65 steering

I have an early model MF 65 that has major steering problems. I need to replace the steering shaft and the steering arm that connects to the tie rods. Someone had
welded them together and installed them out of time, which rubbed on the driveshaft for the loader pump and wore it in two.
My question is: How do you determine when the steering assembly is in time? There are no index marks and I can't trust the way it was previously assembled.
This tractor runs great and looks pretty good but is becoming a real money pit. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

That is correct. The solution is to replace the arms on top of the spindles with the later style which are shorter. Then the center arm doesn't have to move as far to steer the tractor.

Bobny, do you mean the arms that attach to the the upper part of the pedestal that are connected to the cylinder and steering rod?

No. I am referring to the arms on the top of the spindles next to the tires. My father and I learned about this the hard way many years ago when trying to put a loader on a 1960 65.

186081M2 Arm, Steering, Left Hand (5-5/8" Between Hole Centers) (Takes 5/8" Dia. Bolt)
186083M2 1 Arm, Steering, Right Hand (5-5/8" Between Hole Centers) (Takes 5/8" Dia. Bolt)

The longer steering arms are 6-5/8" between hole centers.

I made a reply to the later post re: the shorter MF 65 steering arms. They are the ones on my tractor. Even with the shorter arms the linkage rubs the loader pump driveshaft. Is there any procedure to make certain the p.s. cylinder link and the steering wheel link on the pedestal are correctly installed?

Did you ever figure what to do about your arms hitting the shaft on the front hydraulic pump-i RAN into the same problem.
