Thank you in advance for answering the questions I have!
I inherited a 1974 MF135 if my memory serves me based on the serial number.
I was able to find and download a operators manual and made adjustment to the carburetor with no luck. The exhaust fumes are so noxious it burns your eye with the fuel mixture so rich. It backfires, runs rough and is need of some serious TLC.

The tractor was bought new by my grandfather and has always been barn kept so overall it is in good condition.
My plans are to rebuild the carburetor and a complete tune up and go from there to see how well it runs before I get into pressure testing the cylinders to see if additional work is required.
I have had diesel tractors and currently have a MF270 but never a gasoline powered tractor and have no reference to working on one.
So if you have experience with this model your tutelage is greatly appreciated!
1. I am going to start with rebuilding the carb and understand once I get the carb off to locate the number on the carb to ensure I get the proper rebuild kit. Please let me know your thoughts or suggestion regarding this issue.
2. Give a complete tune up distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, coil, timing, wires and plugs.
So it has been since my teens since I have had to set the points so if you have suggestions please advise or any other suggestions you might have in the tune up phase. I am assuming I can just set the timing by adjusting out any valve clatter.
Once again thank you in advance for any help you may suggest it is appreciated!
