MF 165 - Inverter question

Probably a stupid question...The lighting system on the MF 165 requires an inverter component that does not appear to be made anymore. What is the point of the Inverter on the MF165? I assume that voltage is rectified into DC as it comes out of the generator. Wouldn't the lights use DC as well or does the system need 12v DC inverted to 12v AC? I'm confused.

The early 100's series tractors used what they call Electro Luminescence lighting for the gauges. The gauges do not use light bulbs but instead the gauge face illuminates. An easy way to identify an Electro Luminescence gauge is that is will have a single spade terminal on the back that connects to the wiring harness. There will be no removable light bulb. I believe the inverter changes the 12 volt DC to something like 90 volts AC. Very nice looking gauges when working.

Thanks! That explains it.

I had assumed that all of the lighting for the gauges, headlamps, working light and safety lights would all be 12 volt DC. I appreciate the assistance.
