Picked up 1960 MF35.
Gas motor.

In process of changing oil and during draining heard clunk clunk. Two ball bearing came out of drain plug.

Any ideas?
Very worried...

Seems to run good. Just replaced rear PTO and transmission/hydraulic fluid.

The governor is coming apart, mine did the same thing. The ball bearings from the governor are just small enough to come out the drain plug. It's quite a job to change it out, remove hood/grill, radiator, front axle/front support, crankshaft pulley, and the front cover on the engine just to get to it.

I have a Neighbour with a Continental Engine. Governor assembly was faulty. Balls were showing up at Oil drain port, located in bottom of Engine oil Pan.

This is a picture from this site YT.

That sounds nasty. Is there anyway to prevent that?

No way to prevent it from happening. The stamped sheet metal "spider" that hold those ball bearings in place either wear out, or just break. The ball bearings are used as weights for the governor to work.
