I've replaced the generator on a gas engine MF50 with a SI alternator. The first alternator ran O K for 5 years and then went bad.I replaced it six times and still not charging. I've replaced all wires. Cleaned all connecttions.
wired as per diagram.
Could RPM be too low?
HEIP!!

If it is a one wire they can need up to or more then 2000RPM to self excite. Me I use the 3 wire which start charging form the get go and cost about half with the 1 wire does. The ones I use are made for a1980 Chev pickup no power any thing no AC and cost around $45 form O'Reilly's and have a life time warranty on them to boot so if it ever goes bad I get a new one for free

I had a Delco SI alternator did the same thing, I bought a diode from Charlie U, Charlie Uthke, Charlie's Repair, 22195 State Hwy 56, Austin, MN? 55912 [email protected]. Easy to install on top of the alternator, fixed it permanently. It charges right up immediately, without waiting to rev up, and slowly tapers off. Cheap, and it works.
