I have a MH 55 ser# GSW 1101 I bought. My first tractor, got it running good, but won't charge battery. It's 12 volt negative ground. Think I should go to a alternator set up, any help I would be grateful. Advice, diagrams, etc. Thank you.

Go to a NAPA or O'Reilly's and ask for a alternator that fits a 1980 Chev pickup no power anything no AC. Will cost around $45 plus a core charge. At O'Reilly's it will have a lift time warranty on it.
Then figure out a way to mount it and also buy the 2 wire plug while getting the alternator. Run the wire off the big charge stud of the alternator #10 wire to the load side of the amp gauge. On the plug there is a #1 and #2 wire. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud and the #1 wire goes to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on. Or to save wire hook it to the ignition side of the coil which is what I do. You need a diode or ballast resister in that wire or you may not be able to shut it off. Ballast resister from O'Reilly's part #VR-1 works well
