Thanks ptfarmer. I was all set to buy a ford 2000 gasser, but I'm sure glad the owner "hum hauled" around on it. This thing's a little tank!

One quick question:

I want to clean her up, and am thinking about pressure washing it. Any precautions/concerns beforehand?

Nice looking machine! The first step is to read/obtain an Owners Manual. Tells you how to keep it maintained. I "think" I've read Not to pressure wash/hose a warm engine. I would keep it away from the injector pump also. Take care of it and it could outlast you:)

Good tough little tractor. No problem pressure washing as long as the pressure doesn't lift the paint. Just make sure all openings are sealed and don't blast directly on electrical areas or vented areas, such as the crankcase or transmitted vents. Enjoy! Ben

The gas tractors while they are ok, they can't beat a diesel. On pressure washing be careful around any place that has seal of some sort.

First deep cleaning complete. Round 2 begins tomorrow. The power of this machine is just absurdly remarkable! Had to adjust the right side drag link, but all else appears to be mechanically sound, and no noticeable fluid leaks to speak of. This tractor might very well sport a new coat of paint in the future. Any know the correct I&T Shop Manual for this beast?

Hi,
Very nice looking straight tractor. Always interested to see the differences between US and UK-made machines. Looks like your brakes need a bit of attention by the position of the LH brake pedal. Don't rely on them too much until you have checked for any problems.

Yep. You're correct. The left brake is very strong. The right, on the other hand, is as you stated. Needs attention. Perhaps needs adjustment? Weak spring(s)? Not been in there yet. Just getting a clean work surface at the moment. Any thoughts/ideas on it before tire removal?

I'd get an OWNER'S manual, also, I would warm up at 1200 RPM, and operate at 1500 - 1700 rpm, and work that diesel. I'd not just let her idle along and lope along, it just ain't good for the Perkins.

Nice tractor, and great engine, great gear selection, and very, very fuel efficient. You will find it to be your "go-to" machine. Easy starting even in very cold weather.

Yes, a few. Follow the brake shafts inwards from the drums towards the centre of the tractor. On the inner end you will see the drop-arms which are connected to the brake rods. When the brakes are applied are these arms leaning forward? If they are you almost certainly have worn brake cams. They look like a 'T' piece on the other end of the shaft. You can normally see the wear where the shoe tip has been sitting. It does not matter what you do in the way of adjustment, new shoes or drums you won't improve the efficiency much. The only way is to build the cams up with weld and grind back to a square shape. They can be left a little proud to compensate for wear on the shoe tips. With this done and the adjustment procedure carried out correctly you should have a tractor that will as we would say this side of the pond "stop on a sixpence" but for you I guess it would be "stop on a dime".
Let us know what you find.

You might want to read my 135 brakes thread below. The helpful guys here walked me through resolving an issue with my right side brake. Once you get yours apart, be sure and look for grooves in the back plate. Makes a huge difference in whether the brake will work.
