MF135 Rebolting the Diff Lock Lever

Hello, I'm putting my MF135 back together after the complete engine rebuild and repainting everything. I removed the bolt for the rear diff lever thinking I could remove the foot lever/pedal to paint it, unfortunately I couldn't get it off the shaft that easily. Now I can't seem to line up the flat position on the shaft to reinstall the bolt, at least I think there is a flat piece on the shaft where the bolt slides in. I tried to grab the shaft with needle nose pliers but there isn't enough room to grab the shaft and rotate. I though about grinding an old pair of needle nose pliers thin enough to grab and rotate the shaft upwards to get the bolt in. Has anyone had this issue before and can lend some advice? Thanks, Don

Hello Don,
You should not need to turn the shaft. First of all either jack up the RHS (if wheel fitted) or turn the axle shaft to ensure that there is no engagement of the differential lock or even the teeth just mating. Adjustment of the pedal will be a bit hit and miss until you get it right. Move the pedal to the approximate position and fit the bolt and nut and nip them up enough to turn the shaft. With the foot plate in place correct adjustment is achieved when there is a gap of 1/4 to 1/2" under the pedal at full engagement. Turn the wheel or axle to ensure that you have full engagement. Fit the return spring after tightening the bolt to 85lb-ft. Check the under-pedal clearance again. If tightening the pedal clamp does not hold the pedal securely then it will need to be replaced.
