twisted pto on massey to-30

darntractor

Need a little help here, I twisted my PTO while tilling and my Pto lever is stuck. I opened the observation hole and cut the shaft. I have the shaft out but I still can not get the hydraulic assembly to drop out the bottom or the rest of the bent PTO out. Anyone have any ideas before I split the tractor? I really think I am missing a step and I have researched pretty heavily. I have not seen anything that I am missing but the hydraulics have to be connected to something that is preventing my from pulling them out and removing the rest of the old PTO shaft.
Really would appreciate any help

Yes you are technically correct although since no one gives a crap except you, I posted it here cause I felt like it. Do I need to move it to the HF side I did not realize was there to make you all warm and fuzzy?

Got a manual? Pump comes up, not down like a ford. Most likely burrs got it dug into the splines on the pump, if that's the case, you may need to buy some parts... there should have been a sheer pin to prevent that, but someone before you might have changed things...

I see so many Ferguson 20s and 30s advertised as Massey Fergusons, either out of pure ignorance or with an intent to deceive. That is what bothers me!

I have to agree with Tony, the splines on the other end of the shaft got messed up which won't allow the shaft to come out. When you get a new pto shaft the to-30 had the 1 1/8" 6 spline pto shaft, they make a replacement shaft that has the 1 3/8" 6 spline pto shaft so you don't need a adaptor to go from the 1 1/8" pto shaft to the more common 1 3/8" pto shafts found on newer equipment.

The Pump comes up not down? I have to take the whole top off? I will dig into my manual I have always had them drop out the bottom on older tractors. I took the bolts off the bottom access panel and it will move but not come off. I am sure the shaft is twisted on the other side of the pump I just need to get it out somehow. From everyone's responses I still do not know if I need to split it or there is another way?
Thanks

The pump drops down on the TO20 and TO30, it comes out the top on the TO35/F40/MF50 etc.

The 'access plate' on the bottom of the tractor is actually the bottom of the pump itself. Make sure you have the control valve linkage disconnected before trying to drop the pump or or remove the top cover or you will break the control valve.

Removing the top cover next will allow you to see more of what is going on and give you access to cut the shaft in front of the pump if it's twisted there.

Yeah I messed up- I get in a daze over the dumb model numbers too- I have a TO30, MF30, no where the same, and I don't remember if I ever took 'down' a pump on my 30's-yeah again, TO30's- but the TEA20 drops down fer sur. I took a few 35 and up pumps out the top, it is more work I suppose. BUT- if you are in a pickle getting that shaft removed, taking the top off gives you tons more elbow room. Good luck.
