i got that 65 started , new oil. was wondering if there is a place to set the oil pressure. as the needle sits just above the red mark on guage. i think thats why it was parked .
i did find some used pistons , rings and oil pump with it. it appears it has been overhauled.

You would have to drop the oil pan so you can get at the oil pump to adjust the pressure. I'd put a regular gauge with numbers to see what the actual psi is first.

The needle move at all? Years ago I bought an AC CA with the oil pump squished infront of the flywheel- no pressure at all, so got it cheap. An old timer told me to unscrew the pipe going to the gauge and fill it with a squirt oilcan. To 'prime it like a water well pump'. The oil came back all over the place- great pressure... till next spring after sitting all winter. So I did it again, good pressure all summer again. A lot easier than checking from the bottom up.

first of all its a continental gas engine. has new 30w oil.anybody familiar with them know the factory oil guage has a red zone on it about the first 1/4 way up. when first started the needle goes barely to half way , then drops into the red zone. i can kinda hear the rods rattle once it drops down. so i want to know if there is an adjust ment on the oil pump for pressure. either shims on the relief valve or what??? i bought it like this as it was sitting for 15 years in a garage and the widow said her husband quite using it cause there was something wrong with it. but she dont know what. so i think i know why now.

and i got the old pistons and rings and an oil pump with it. appears like he did an o/h on it also before parking it.

After you get the oil pan off there is a cotter pin holding the relief spring in place. Take the pin out, and put in a shim about .030" thick, that should raise the oil pressure a little bit. But before shimming the relief spring I would look at the main, and rod bearings first (you won't be able to look at the rear main bearing). No use shimming the relief spring when the bearings could be worn. I'd almost bet its got worn rod bearings.

My bet is on the rear main- the needle goes up, then back down. Which is why I asked. Rings and pistons were mentioned to be in a box, no old bearing halves? If there was, with 12 worn, 2 uninstalled, then someone did not split the tractor and do the rear mains-typical 'in frame' job?? .... but did new rings- that put even more pressure on the old bearings.... so thar's yer problem....

I would make sure the previous owner put the correct new bearings in. If the crank had been ground undersized and they installed standard bearing shells, you would have way to much clearance.

First thing to do is try a different oil pressure gauge. Some times gauges break and you'll spend a lot of money fixing something that isn't broke in the first place.
