massey ferguson 65.

Mechanically, mine is sound, make sure has power steering. My gas 65, you cant mount a power steering unit on it unless you use a pump off the pto, because the steering linkage gets in way of front pulleys.

Nice tractor, the Continental is a fine engine, parts are available. The Multi-power transmission is fine too. The gas versions aren't real champs in the fuel economy area, but no gas engine is compared to a diesel. I wouldn't be scared of one in decent shape. If it's been beat to death it can be a money pit, same as any other tractor.

ok thanks. it in pretty decent original condition, widow had it sitting in her garage for 15 years untouched. has all new tires on it. she said she wanted 500.00 to get rid of it, so i took a chance on it. it has the rear spin out rims i noticed and can adjust front width too. has 14.9x 28 rear rubber. dont know if thats standard or optional.has the underslung exhuast on it. what does SGM at the beginning of serial number mean?

S = standard/utility chassis, G = gasoline, M = two stage clutch. The 14.9x28 tire is the next size bigger than what it normally came with, The high clearance, or row crop (depending on where you are) has a 13.8x38 tire.

ok thanks. two stage clutch... how does that work? one disc or two? new to me kind of tractor.

Hi If you paid $500 for it I wouldn't worry about problems it's worth that in parts or use it till it blows up if you get it running without to much cost. I'm glad she said the price, if you had come on and said thats what you offered, I'd a called the cops on you L.O.L.
Good luck with it, I wish I could find these cheap tractors. If that was junk round here $1500 offers would get you escorted off the property by a big dog and guy with a gun!.
Regards Robert

Push the clutch part part way down you can put the tractor into gear, push the clutch pedal all the way down the engage the pto.
