245 temp gauge

81 245 massey diesel ser. # 9A343120 trying to install universal temp gauge but
threads in thermostat housing are not NPT.I think they are metric 5/8 UNF.Block sensor
had a sealing washer & not pipe threads. hole in housing for sensor bulb 3/8 or
less.Any ideas to correct this or put it back OEM would be appreciated.If phone #
allowed mine is 903 312 9555. Bill Byford
 
On my tractor the factory sender was still there and the PO put a universal in on the other side. Anyway, look on the other side of the engine in the same spot and there should be a hole with the typical npt thread
 
I guess to clarify, the OEM temp sender goes into the LH side of the thermostat housing. I have a universal gauge setup that the sender bulb screws into the thermostat housing on the opposite (RH) side. The other side had NPT thread, not sure is someone drilled/tapped it or it came like that, but that's where mine is.
