Good evening,
I have been entrusted to fix a Massey Ferguson M135 that is new to our farm. Prior it apparently sat around for a number of years and the person selling it (a mechanic of sorts) installed a new clutch.
Many problems here but the focus of this post is the PTO shaft is jumping out of the 'engine speed' selection. The Transmission/Hydraulic fluid was heavily contaminated with water..almost a white sludge. Drained.
PTO Shifter/selector assembly inspected and spring and detent replaced due to a worn rounded point. I found an excessive gap between the two sections of counter shaft that the pto driven gear/coupler slides on. I was told it was to be no more than 1/4 of an inch between the splines and I am more like 3/4's of an inch. Please see picture:
There seemed no excessive end to end play in the shaft. I checked the rear for walking out and removed it to inspect it carefully and nothing seems out of place. I knocked it with a hammer and a block of wood but it wouldn't go ahead.
I put my hand on the front half of the shaft once the rear half was removed and while there was no excessive back and forth end play there was about 1/2 to 3/4's of an inch travel up and down.
Do I remove the plate under seat or the plate that the shifters go through just behind the steering box or can I access the fix through the access panel that is home to the pto shifter/selector.
It also might be worth noting that I am not able to get the gear shifter into 3rd. Every other gear selection is just fine.
I would greatly appreciate some help on this.
Sincerely,
Michael
