MF 85 hyd filters and iron filings

So went and looked at that MF85 today that the power steering and PTO are not working on. Checked hyd fluid and it was milky and the dip stick is missing. Drained the fluid out and pulled the filter that is in the transmission area out and found iron filings in it. Also pulled the other filter that sits under the gas tank and found more filings there. Have at least one of those filter on order but have not found where to get the other one. So where might the filings be coming from??
Thanks
How bad might it be??

The tractor should have a screen-strainer on the power steering and the three point scotch pumps, and a filter in the heavy cast iron external case. All should be washable and can be re-used. On my 85 diesel I had to remove and clean the PS pump screen four times to catch the fine shop rag threads that someone left inside. Seems to be OK now. If the power steering pump is weak the PTO can fail also, as the PS return oil is what supplies the PTO shift valve.

Where is that screen strainer locate on the tractor?? It it the filter under the gas tank or is it some place else?? We have on order the one that sits inside the front part of the transmission that to see you have to drain the hyd oil out

The power steering pump mounting plate/pump assembly must be removed to get to the pump inlet screen. It's the square looking plate bolted to the transmission right side, in front of the brake pedals. The hydraulic three point screen can be reached through the lift cover four bolt access plate. The cast iron filter can is in two different places, depends on gas or diesel engine. All can be cleaned and re-used if not damaged. I drain about five gallons out of the transmission, then the PS pump/plate can be removed for service.
