massey ferguson 165

After changing fuel filters and bleeding the air from system the tractor started right up but only runs for about 1 minute the engine cuts out.
any info is greatly appreciated.

i purchased the filters from a massey ferguson dealer. They have clear bowls on the bottoms, the ones i replaced did not have clear bowls on the bottom. I will take a look in the morning and get the namebrand.
thanks for the reply

Reason I asked, if NAPA/WIX filters are used the flow is different from CAV filters. NAPA/WIX have a top outer fuel inlet groove that many make the mistake of putting an extra O ring in, because it "fits". That restricts/stops the flow and will cause the complaint you have. The BASE has an O ring groove to seal the lip. I've made calls to remove the extra O ring.

ok, i ordered filters two separate times
the left side of the engine has a delph 296 and the right side of the engine has Wix filter 33166, I did not realize they sent me two separate filters when I purchased them.
any information is appreciated

ok, the primary filter is the Wix filter. So there could be an extra O ring on the base of that filter or the inlet of that filter? because I remember putting an O ring on at the time of replacement. there was a ring for the Base and small O ring for the inlet

Ok Dieseltech, I took the Wix filter off and took the O ring off and re seated the filter and it leaked from the top base as I re-filled the the system.
what next to try? is there a specific type of filter that you would recommend for the primary filter?
thank you for your information

There's a top base outer groove O ring, a smaller O ring for the filter top ID that fits the inner base, and a lower filter O ring. DO NOT but an O ring on the top outer groove on NAPA/WIX filters, that's the fuel INLET to the filter. I've lost count how many times I've made service calls to pull an O ring out of that groove because the owner thinks it needs one there..

Had a similar problem with my diesel 175. fuel line was gunked up from the tank to the lift pump.

Dieseltech, just giving you a shout out to thank you for the information in regards to the Wix fuel filter. I installed a different brand of filter and instantly had fuel flow. After bleeding the system I was able to get the old MF 165 roaring again.
Lesson of the Day:a fuel filter is not just not just a fuel filter.
Thanks again,
muskie jim
