Throttle on MF35 MF50

How hard is it to replace the leather resistance disk on the lever throttle control on a gas MF35 & gas MF50? They tend to drift and I find myself constantly pulling the throttle down to keep the power up. I looked at them and can't exactly figure out where to start. Why these did not have the teeth on the lever like the Ford 8N is beyond me. Any help will be appreciated. Love these babies but they do have the desire for TLC.

You need to pull out the long rod that goes through the middle of the friction disk and runs to the front of the engine where the governor linkage U-bolt connects to it. You need to disconnect the throttle rod from the friction disk plate under the dash, loosen the tension spring clamp and loosen the U bolt at the far end that connects to the governor linkage and slide the rod out towards the back of the tractor. Make sure you check the governor adjustment when you reinstall. You might be able to get away with loosening up the tension spring and pulling the rod back just far enough to scrape out the old friction material and then cut a slot in the new disk to install around the rod. You might want to glue it down if you install it that way so it does tear up.

Be sure and mark position of rod and parts etc to keep it in time( right position) or it will be hard to get governor to work right. I use the cork disk that goes in 3 point control lever. Glue one side and let set to dry before using.
