having trouble getting a lift to work with position control .....position control will not work just right after adjusting according to the I&t manuel ... draft seems to be okay ..... work done rebuilt pump ... and replaced the draft spring in the back ... adjusted ...what did I miss ... cant get lift to move just little bit ... hope someone can help please !!!

Did you adjust the control valve after you adjusted the linkage, and put the top cover back on? If you have never adjusted one of these before it can be frustrating because if any adjustment is off a little bit off it won't work like it should. The I&T manual is ok, but the MF shop manual is better.

Hi,
When you adjusted the end float in the control spring did you have the DRAFT lever in the fully lowered position?
Next you will need to find out what is or is not happening. With the RH side cover removed and the engine off -
lower the POSITION lever fully so that the 3-point is down fully. In this position the pump lever should be pushed fully forward by the vertical linkage lever.
Slowly raise the POSITION lever. The pump lever should now move rearwards past the 12 o'clock position. Select a position for the POSITION lever (about 3/4 lift). Have an assistant slowly lift the 3-point. As the 3-point is being lifted the pump lever should return approximately to the 12 o'clock position. When the 3-point reaches the position which corresponds to the quadrant lever setting the pump lever should be in neutral.
Lower the quadrant lever a little and the pump lever should move forward into the discharge position. Have your assistant lower the 3-point slightly and the pump lever should now resume the neutral position.
When you understand how it works it will be a lot easier to see what is wrong.
To recap; when you move the quadrant lever this sends a signal to the pump lever to either move into the pumping or discharge position. After the 3-point has responded either way the pump lever will return to the neutral position and be at rest.

As PT has said the adjustments are important and will affect the operation. It is always advisable to carry out the full range of adjustments with the appropriate special tools.

DavidP is one the very few people who (for people like me) can make something easy to understand with just using words. I'm more like the "have to have it in-front of me" type when it comes to some things.

I replaced the control vale with a new one from A&I the old one was worn badly ...it has the new style in it now could I have done something wrong there? and could you point me in a direction where adjustment tools could be purchased?? TIA IHSMOKE

Hi, in the UK the special tools were made by VL Churchill. I believe that in the US they are made by someone else. The full set could be expensive if they are still available. It might be wiser to have someone with the tools to do the job for you.

I haven't found any tools made by VL Churchill so far, seems like VL Churchill company got split up, and sold, or something). Here in the states I can't find anyone who makes, or sells them.
