mf 50 temp gauge replacment

I just replaced the temp gauge on a mf 50 gas. It leaks.the old temp probe screwed into the thermostat housing this one doesn't have long enough threads. Do I need an adapter or another gauge?

get a couple copper washers that will fit in the hole and slip over the bulb end. That is what I did on my 180.
