MF 50 Hard Start and Throttle Issue

MF50, MS-TSX 6?? carb, overhauled a couple of years ago. Hard to start, really have to fiddle with lots of gas (3/4 throttle) and choke. Then when running, and under load, really hard to keep rpm from moving (i.e., throttle lever typically only moves between 1/4 to 1/2 on. Doesn't help that I have sloped fields, but I recall it was better. And #1 cylinder spark plug constantly fouling, even with changed spark plug and wire. Ideas please?[/quote]

Not sure what your talking about rpms moving
thottle lever or engine surging but you may
have low compression on number 1 cylinder
with could cause hard start and fouled plug
you could try a hotter plug in that cylinder

thanks for notes. I am running autolite 386, do you know of a hotter plug for this engine (gas, 134)? I will look at governor spring as well, that hasn't been adjusted/look at since last year (after the clutch replace).

Thanks, will try a 3116 in Cylinder 1 on the 50.

Interesting to note, picked up a 35 last year, it starts/idles way better than my 50, although they are both Z134, and both have MS TSX 683 carb. But the 50 has way more power, and obviously the 35 is lighter.
