Massey 2805 finally made it.

Okay I know Ive been pestering you guys over the past couple of weeks about various issues Ive had with the 2805. Clutch safety switch was an easy fix, just dismantled it and cleaned the terminals and works fine. Oil pressure switch was leaking and will look to get one when I visit the USA in September but sealed up the leaks meantime with two park epoxy adhesive. Back plate on 3 pnt leaked oil so dismantled and re-sealed the O ring so nice and dry now. Brakes were dragging causing the rear end housings to heat bad, tracked back to master type cylinder under hood adjacent to dash. The control rods and piston mechanism was seized which I managed to free up but then found one of the activating rod that are operated via the foot pedal was broke, I was able to weld this up and after adusting the free play at the pedal the dragging stopped. Anyway I took it on several test runs to check everything worked and the there were no oil leaks I decided to take her to local show yesterday, they were featuring Massey so it was a good oportunity to show it off. Now the show was about 6 miles away, tractor ran nice and smooth with lots of power and bark from the exhaust pipe, definately made an entrance. Im not sure yet if all it as it should be though as the rear end was definately getting hot by the time I was there and back, would this be as expected?

The show was a success with a good turn out of Ferguson and Massey Ferguson models, we had a parade and ended up with 127 tractors in the ring at the end. My son drove the 2805 and I had the 97 fwa.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all their help and advice and any further suggestions you have re - rear end temperature.

Bill

Thanks for the update and pictures Bill! Good looking tractors! The brake problem was probably it but you may want to double check the hydraulic pressures to make sure they are in the normal ranges. Double check the transmission cooler in front of the radiator too if you haven't already. It's between the radiator and AC condenser, and they slide out for easy cleaning. It might be a good idea to change the transmission fluid, since who knows how long the brakes were dragging. They could have left some debris in the fluid. I've never checked to see how fast my 2745 or 2805's rearends heat up, but they do get hot after working them for while which is normal for any tractor.

Wow, bet under that 2805 hood decal there is a 2800 decal......they never replaced the hood on that tractor when they did the 05 updates.......the exhaust were moved forward of the cab and different hood panels installed with 05 updates. I had a 2805 I bought for scrap with a good engine so saved engine......it was a early tractor and under that 2805 decal was a 2800 decal.....they just slapped the new decals over old!
I bet your tractor has a MF red painted steel fuel tank......another indication of a early tractor.
What's the serial number of your tractor?
Your tractor looks great......need to find a set of diamond tread front tires to make it look original tho!
Glad you've saved that 2805 from the scrap pile!
Take care

I tend to agree this may be a 1976 model 2800 that was dealer updated to the 2805. The hood appears to be that of the 2800, the air cleaner is one of the originals also. Though it's hard to see the back end, I'm guessing that it has a metal fuel tank and not black plastic. Looks good though!
