Massey Ferguson 175 differential lock

I have a MF-175, and I was doing brake rod seals when I remembered the differential lock never worked. The pedal moves down maybe an inch or so and just feels sloppy and can be taken right back up like it's not even engaging anything. Since I have the brake rod seal out I can see the shaft and engaging spring for the lock and it doesn't move when I press down on the pedal. I was just curious if anyone had any insight or can help me fix this issue. Thanks!!

Btw here is a photo of what my pedal looks like, when I searched a little on the internet it looked like there was a different diff lock on those MF-175's.

That's the early style, there's a cam in the four bolt box the pedal moves, then the heavy spring loaded rod is moved to the right in the photo to shift the collar toward the differential. My guess is the rod is rusted stuck in the brake plate cover that it slides in. Remove the diff lock pedal box assembly and see if you can free it up with your favorite panther juice. Worth a try..

Thanks for the reply! OK, so I pulled the housing made sure when I moved the pedal the cam inside moved and the return spring did it's job. It looked like it was working fine, sprayed some lubricant on it anyways. The shaft and spring look to be seized I'm not sure how easy it should move with a little leverage? Sprayed it with alot of penetrating oil, tapped on it lightly. The engaging spring on the shaft moved a little, it was bound as you can see in the photos. I put the housing back on and pressed down on the pedal to try and move the shaft, but I still got the same amount of "play" and then just solid, release off and it just comes back up. Looking down while pressing on the pedal the shaft and spring looked as if they weren't budging at all. Not really sure where to go from here?

Jack one rear wheel so its free to turn. Now use a heavy pry bar between the left end of the rod and the housing. When it's working correctly it will move right, but may stop if the heavy lugs inside are out of mesh, that's when the wheel needs turned. The heavy spring is to return to off position. My guess is it's rusty in the housing bore just left of the spring, but I have got the rod freed up before. It should move about 3/4 inch to the right, then spring should push it back. When you get it freed up grease the cam before it is placed back in the rod groove on re-assembly.
