MF65 PS pedestal re-assembly

I have a strange one. The ps suddenly stopped working to turn left, but would turn right. I tried to drive it out of the field but then the steering stopped completely. ....would not turn either direction.

Reason....It turns out that the snap ring that holds the pedestal shaft in the ps pedestal had broken and allowed the shaft to drop down an inch so inside the pedestal. Then the tie rods hit the axle cradle and stopped the motion of the wheels.

I need to put the pedestal shaft back in place and install a new snap ring.

Question: Is there anything unique or odd about this situation, and can I just push the pedestal shaft back up into place and install the new snap ring? I see on a drawing that there are gear teeth inside the pedestal how do they align?

Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

An added note. I got the shaft back up in place (not sure if I have the gear teeth properly aligned), But the pedestal shaft is very loose and the groove for the snap ring is worn so badly that I doubt if a new snap ring will hold the shaft in place.

Any one have a good used pedestal for sale?

Are you talking about the tie rod end that goes on the pedestal shaft under front assembly. Below the radiator? If so it has bolt that tighten to hold it on. Also you can go to ACGO Parts Book--- as guest--- then put in 65 MF--go to steering-- and see complete steering.

I see the snap ring your talking about. On top of shaft where grease fitting is? All high crops shafts are the same.Wide or NF front. The utility model has different splines and will not fit.

Correct, the shaft is the large vertical shaft inside the pedestal housing. Must have been loose and No grease for some years, because the shaft is loose in the bushings and must have been wobbling because it has worn out the deep groove that holds the snap ring on top just below the grease fitting. I probably need to replace both the shaft and the bushings, or buy a complete used pedestal including the shaft.
