MF 231S FUEL FILTER PROBLEM

A couple years ago I had my first encounter with the fuel tank filter clogging because of bad fuel. I had the tank flushed out and thought my
problems were over, it is re occuring and I am kind of over it. Have any of you replaced the tank filter to an external so as to at least make it
easier to clean? I have to drain all the fuel out of the tank now and then clean the tank filter. Why could an external filter be added in line?
Thank you for your insights and response.

Hello Allen,
The shape of the tank allows any debris to collect in the rear end. There should be no need to fit an in-line filter as it will serve little purpose because the end of the tap will get blocked if there is no strainer fitted. It is far more advisable to maintain your fuel storage scrupulously and invest in a funnel with a fine strainer fitted to it. If you can keep debris out it can't block the filter. In addition to this ensure that the strainer is a tight fit on the tap. Over a period of time surge in the fuel can work the filter loose and off. It is also advisable to keep the tank as full as possible at all times. This will reduce surge on the strainer and also reduce the amount of condensation that can form in the tank when it is used in a mainly almost empty condition.
You should have no problem if routine maintenance is carried out to reduce the chance of a breakdown.

Thank you! That is good information. I will have to be even more cautious with the fuel. Sure makes me want to go all blue!

what does the material look like that is clogging your strainer,if it's gray slime it's fuel algae, if it's black crud it's dead fuel algae,if it's rust it can be either bad fuel being put in the tank or thanks to the ultra low sulfur fuel of today it's rusting your fuel tank.

It is black nasty. I removed the tank and flushed it out, cleaned filter and re filled. How do you stop the algae?
