Bought a 135. Couple questions.

Well I found my 135. I will provide the details of my purchase later but have a couple questions while trying to check this tractor over.

It would appear to be a 1966 and it is diesel.

What power steering fluid do I use? The pump is empty. Hopefully it works.

It appears there are two seep holes underneath. One up by the rear main that has a cotter pin. There is another under the gear shifters. This one did not have a cotter pin and you could see it was seeping. I poked it and what appears to be water with a blackish color and very little oil residue came gushing out. I would say 4 oz worth. The high low shifter boot is in bad shape and could have easily left water in if in rain. Any opinions on this?

This could be related to the water in the tranny housing??? The 3 point will not stay up more than 30 minutes even without a load. I'm not sure how the second lever on the right hip works though. Could it be the position of the non control lever of do I need a hydraulic rebuild?

Congrats on your MF. You really should
get the Operators Manual, which gives
basic info and also the maintenance
tips. For PS use MF Permatran 821, same
oil as for transmission. 3 point
operates from the inner Position Control
lever. The outer lever is Draft Control
and pull that all the way to rear and
leave it there and don't move it. Your
Position Control for 3 pt won't work
correctly unless Draft Control all the
way back. After tractor shut down the 3
pt will slowly go down, that is normal
for these MF models. Many experts here
to help you, but first get manual and
study. Also keep tires with correct
pressures, many bad accidents due to low
tire pressure failures.

congratulations on your new to you tractor,
you have been given the best advise, get the manual and study it,

I know nothing about a Ferguson with power steering as my old Ferguson has Armstrong steering.

but an old case backhoe that I borrowed once, I always checked all fluid levels before use.

the power steering sump would be low or empty and the motor oil would be over full,
we just drained out the overfull motor oil and added it back to the power steering sump,
not proper procedure, but it worked and ran great for years, apparently there was a seal out in the power steering pump that let the oil transfer sumps.

based on this procedure, I would check your motor oil level and insure its not over full.

the link I posted has the operators manual for the 135
and a service manual for a 35
most of the info for the 35 is the same for the 135
the OP manual for the 135 will give you the fluids needed as well as a lot of other basic info
best of all they are free

good luck on your latest tractor
now ya have to give us pics
